Summer Group: Group work and Categories for Mapping 

Grupo de Verano: Trabajo en grupo y Categorías para Mapeo 

 

In June and July we are continuing work on the project with some new students.  We engaged in another group work activity to build a tower made of newspapers, paper clips and masking tape! 

En junio y julio, continuamos trabajando en el proyecto con algunos estudiantes nuevos. Participamos en otra actividad de trabajo en grupo para construir una torre hecha con periódicos, clips y cinta adhesiva.

We also introduced the topic of mapping by asking the students to draw a map of the area they grew up in or the area where they live now.  We provided paper and coloured pencils and allowed them to be creative!

También introducimos el tema del mapeo pidiendo a los estudiantes dibujar un mapa del lugar donde criaron o donde residen actualmente. ¡Les proporcionamos papel y lápices de colores y les permitimos ser creativos!

We also asked the group to draw a map of O’Connell Street - the main street in the capital city of Dulin - and to include whatever they wanted to. It was amazing how different everyone’s map was and how differently the group approached it. 

También pedimos al grupo dibujar un mapa de la calle O´Connell, la calle principal de la ciudad de Dublín, e incluir lo que necesitaran. Fue increible lo diferentes que eran los mapas de cada uno y lo diferente que el grupo lo abordó.

 

Over the last few weeks, we have been asking the group to make a list of the places in the Dublin 1 area under a number of categories. The categories are: 

• History 

• Health 

• Education 

• Leisure 

• Bureaucracy  

Durante las últimas semanas, hemos estado pidiendo al grupo hacer una lista de los lugares, del área de Dublín 1, bajo un número de categorías. Las categorías eran:

• Historia.
• Salud.
• Educación.
• Ocio.
• Burocracia.
  

We asked the group to work in pairs or in small groups of three and to make a list. We then moved the posters around so everyone got a chance to add to each category. 

Pedimos al grupo trabajar en parejas o en pequeños grupos de tres y hacer una lista.. Luego movimos los carteles para que  tuvieran la oportunidad de agregar a cada categoría.

These categories will help up when we come to create our digital map! 

¡Estas categorías nos ayudarán cuando vayamos a crear nuestro mapa digital!

We also created a paper to show how we will be pinning areas on our digital map! The group are enjoying the project so far!
